    Re: Awesome Anime site

I got into anime probably when I was in like 8th grade, I used to like Naruto until all of the "Narutards" came about and completely ruined it for me. I have really gotten into Deathnote since it has started on AdultSwim.

     www.animecrunch.com

I suggest Ping Pong Club + Death Note.  Death Note is probably one of the best anime's out there... as long as you ignore the crappy english version.

    Re: Awesome Anime site

Isn't the English version of Death Note ultimately the same as the japanese version just with voiceovers? If so, then the voices shouldn't be what makes it good or bad.. Voices aside, Death Note is probably the best anime that I have ever seen.

    Re: Awesome Anime site

Though I never saw Death Note in japanese but I do watch a lot of animes in japanese. To answer your question ... YES english voices can completly ruin an anime for multiple reasons. Usually a person who watches fansub anime is suppose to switch over to the english version when it comes out, its a policy that no one lives up to since 90% of the time the english voices never live up to the japanese voices (examples being Naruto and One Piece). Plus not all dubbed anime is the exact same as the japanese version, since they cut out scenes that most people wouldn't give a crap about or make the scene way cooler though this shouldn't effect Death Note as bad since its on Adult Swim unlike Naruto which had quite a few scenes removed.

But the main reason for people not liking english versions of shows that are on Adult Swim (meaning it's not effected by scene cuts) is usually the voice actor in english is no where near as good as the japanese one (example Ichigo's japanese voice is way cooler then the power ranger english voice) and sometimes they change lines to fit better for english veiwers (like FLCL and Lupin) which some people perfer the original lines.

So, usually people who hate the english version has seen the japanese version which stands the question, why you watching it again? =P

    Re: Awesome Anime site

Though I usually agree with you in saying that the American voiceovers are not as good as the original Japanese voice actors, I can think of an instance that it was the other way around. I doubt any of you watched or enjoyed Fruits Basket, but I watch all kinds of anime not just the Naruto/Bleach type animes (although I reccommend Elfen Lied for those of you who like that). But in that anime, I couldn't get through the Japanese version because two of the main characters (Tohru and Yuki) just grated on my nerves and rubbed me the wrong way. Yuki, who is a boy, was voiced by a baritone woman who sounded like she had a constant cold and Tohru, the clumsy protaganist, talked so fast with such a high pitched voice that it just didn't fit with her character since she had a lot of inspirational moments and speeches. Then, when I got the DVD's via Netflix I watched them through in English and it was so much better, the voices sound like I imagined them originally and it made the viewing much easier. So, the point of this ramble, is that voices do play a major role in an anime in my opinion.

    Re: Awesome Anime site

I did see Fruits Basket in japanese, but it was a long while ago so I don't remember the voices enough to remember that how annoying they were. Though I liked it untill I found out that it just ends for no reason instead of finishing up to the manga which is the most annoying thing to me.

Yea there's A LOT of cool plot twists that the anime misses out on ^^; Too bad, they were good.
