WALL-E is a movie starring Johnny Five's speech impaired kid brother. I don't
really want to give anything away but this movie was just plain genius.
Despite being the slowest paced movie in Pixar's library, WALL-E is an intriguing, frenetic, hilarious, and hugely satisfying film. I've never seen a film with so many horrible ideas that are turned around and made absolutely wonderful.
- Main character is a dirty machine that doesn't talk: No problem.
- The way humans are portrayed (not gonna spoil it): No problem
- Multiple references to a movie most viewers have never seen: Still no problem.
- Trying to make an audience fall in love with a mobile trash compactor: Definitely no problem.
- Keep changing the plot: Works perfectly.
This is a movie that should never have been made, much less a movie that would even work, much less a movie that will undoubtably win an Oscar. (What is it exactly that makes Pixar films superior to everyone else's?) I do wonder if little kids will enjoy this movie as much as Pixar's other offerings. I can totally see why some people may not like it, but those people are either very young or dead inside.
Oh yeah, and the animated short at the beginning is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long long time.
