    An original concept profession!

    spearman

    spearman2

    Weapons used:Photoshop CS2, Wacom

Here is a Character design that I think would be a great addition to WE in the future. This is basically a strong melee type fighting style. The profession in generic terms is a ‘Spearman’ but I’m working on the subclass idea to make it a unique looking class (like all WE characters).

I have not thought of a name for the class yet so I’ll just use the word ‘Spearman’ This is a fighting amour appearance for very skilled human character to wear. Its not a robot even though it looks like a robot. I took my inspiration from fencing amour and Roman solider costumes with a bit of me in there as well. I like the spear idea because it has not been used in WE yet and the spear itself could have numerous added defensive or aggressive enhancements. Just off the top of my head the spear could have a small shield over the arm holds, spikes, hooks or even a secondary knife that could be with drawn from the spear and used separately etc. Not to mention the impressive strike moves a spear could do in the fray!

I also played with the idea of a duel weld configuration. With this has the potential for some awesome weapon designs and fresh and unique battle skill moves. Not that I’m saying WE skills are boring.

I know that this looks kind of like the metalknight in WE but that was not the purpose. I started out with quit a block motif design at the start of this character design and then I rounded almost all the edges. This saved it looking like something out of robotech. These early sketches are just my first thoughts. I actually want to make the ‘Spearman’ character taller and more athletic looking not so much muscle in appearance.

I have a few thoughts about the metalknight I mentioned before. I have only seen the character class in the Towncenter ingame. This character looks very round and too friendly looking. I can just imagine it as a plush toy for a 5yr old girl. I really like the wallpaper of the metalknight! It’s so cool. I even have it on my desktop right now. Compared to the wallpaper to the tubby looking Metalknight ingame is a big differenc. To me it does not look mean enough to really pose any real ‘threat’ in a WE environment. It looks more prone to slouch on a couch and eat donuts all day than get out and kill Welkin enemies. Well its too late I guess, PS have already built the character. But If I was to design it I would do a few changes. First I would make it slightly taller buy making the legs longer and thinner. Second make the chest piece less round. Third  the arms need to be thinner and added elbows. And finally don’t think the blue gem looking thing is helping as well. It looks a little too ‘pretty’ If you know what I mean.

Okay I think I have said enough. What do you think of my designs? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also what do think of the metalknights? It’s okay to disagree.

I think it looks cool, and that you're amazing. Your future design ideas sound perfect for this kind of character and I love the unique weapon concepts.Yes

    Here is my crits :)

It's a good silhouette you have there, nice shapes, but you need to outline it a little bit more. The belt is distorted compared to the rest of the body, as well as the lines on the chest armor (the second helmet study), it takes away some depth. It's definitively a good WIP. More details and texture would be good.

A spearman-ish character is good, since we lack of a long range melee Warrior IMO.

Everything comes together as an Unity.
